Jimmy Cowan legend 6/7/09

After being stoked with the fact we had some of NZ's biggest All Blacks in for tattoos 2 weeks ago, we were once again wrapped to book in the infamous "Jimmy Cowan"...not only an excellent capped All Black and Super 14 Rugby player, but an all round great guy with a seriously incredible pain threshold. lets be fair iv seen some people with high thresh holds with many of these people doing long back to back days but Jimmys the man! He sat there smiling and talking away for 2 days (back to back) "8 hours each day" totalling over "16 Freakn hours", he even mananged to keep a sly smile at the end. Jimmy eventually walked away with a 3/4 sleeve tribal cover up  and master piece based on a custom "Guy aitchinson design". The amazing work was done by our resident senior artist and specilaist "Steve Purtle" good job guys.

Moving right along...winter has settled in and i think were all becoming accustomed to the cold (or atleast i am haha) my puffer jacket comes with me everywhere i go. As i make my way to work in the mornings i notice the streets are jam packed with people and their boards ready to hit the powdery slopes of Canterbury, if your coming here for a ski adventure or are already here and the day you've planned happens to turn to shite, then how about you utilise that time by getting ya butt in here and allowing us to design and piece together a custom one off tattoo just for you...were warm, inviting, professional, positive, and entertaining what more could you ask for...its food for thought haha.

Okey dokey "just planting a seed" we are sponsoring an event coming up very soon "David Dallas" and "PnC" its being held at Double Happy Friday 24th July, i will fill you in with more details when i get them so keep an eye out for updates on this page "this week". Also listen out on the Rock 93.7 and the Edge 88.9 for free ticket give aways.

Well i think iv done my dash for another week. Dont be a stranger were here for all your tattoo wants needs and inquirys and if you dont know just ask.

Look forward to hearing from you soon,

The Boys in Black

Well well well didnt last week turned out to be quite the surprise, not only did we have our first birthday but we got a suprise visit from some of the countrys favorite sons...The "world famous" All Blacks!!!!. Were completely stoked that they chose our shop and to be fair were epic stoked that out of all the locations nationwide they settled at Otautahi Tattoo BOOYAA!!...and just to finish our week in style the All Blacks take out Italy on Saturdays chilly clash at Jade stadium, you bloody beauty. Ok moving right along our first birthday, a big thanks to everyone who came down to Lyme bar on Thursday night and helped us celebrate our first year in busines, it was a very merry night haha, its always awesome when our clients show support and take time out of their own lives to turn up for special milestone occassions like that, within saying that next time il ease back on the Vodka, 3 shots in a row is probably NOT the best night cap, shouldve really settled for a Hot chocolate...lets just say i woke up on Friday feeling like i had left my Brain down at Lyme and it was stuck between the couch and the seat, still havent found it haha. A big thanks to the Lads at Lyme for putting up with us H and Callum great bunch of guys so if your thirsty and want something a bit special they make the best cocktails in Christchurch bar none, go the long islands. Lastly the filmings started and last Friday we sat down and watched a reasonably unedited teaser on our shop, it feels strange seeing yourself on the screen and i felt like kind of a cockhead but you can be the judge haha, with a bitmore filming and editing we anticipate that it will be posted on here soon so you can watch weekly installments and see what goes on in Christchurchs coolest Tattoo shop "Otautahi Tattoo".

Thanks for the Huge response

Hey guys and girls your support is Hugely appreciated and thanks for everyone that came in with their copy of Avenues magazine for their discounted booking, the response we've recieved from our back cover feature was over whelming and everyone here at Otautahi is pretty stoked. Between the Rock campaign, Print media at Avenues and Canterbury Tourism weve made some excellent bookings, its nice to see some people actually do read my blog haha. And lastly a BIG thanks to all of you who reffered us to your friends and family and gave us the opportunity to put amazing art work on you were completely wrapped. Ok its been a week of minus 7 windchill and quite the ball biter to be fair, the slopes are open but its icy carnage up there at the moment so if your hanging out to hit some powder, id hang on a lil longer or you could just find yourself at the A&E haha. In the meantime whilst the slopes are too Icy email us secure a time and come in for a drawing consultation and well get to work on your new tattoo, its a great way to put your downtime to good use. I have attached 2 pictures of a project piece Dre's working on just stage one for the meantime i cant wait till its finished ity will look amamzing. Stage one involved 2 back to back 4 hour sessions lining it up and some slight detailing. stage 2 i will be the clouds coming to life rays of light breaking through the clouds and more detailing, I will post up pictures if stage 2 soon. Dont forget about the mid winter specials i have posted up through previous weeks blogs.

Well i thinks it time i sign off before you drift off to sleep face first in a cup of hot coffee :)

catch up again next week, in the meantime stay warm and we look forward to hearing from all of you. all inquiries are welcome

Half Price Tattoos

Hey guys im back after another long week on the grind, once again sending over 35 pleased clients out the door last week with amazing body art. Iv decided to do something a bit daring for winter; all clients who spend over $1000 on their tattoo, we will give their friend 50% off their tattoo (up to the maximum value of $500) please note this only applies to friends and not the recipient, be aware it doesnt apply to people already booked in. So to cut a long storey short if theres 2 or more of you looking at getting a piece done then be in super quick for this weeks amazing offer (it has to be mentioned on booking to be applicable).

We were stoked to have had the pleasure of meeting and tattooing Drummer for "Super Groove" and "Che Fu" last week, keep an eye out for him in the world wide stage show and smash hit "Stomp" it was absolutely amazing 12/10 and highly recommended.

We finally have a winner from the "Who's tattoo is it" with the $350 voucher on the Rock...well done Dan Horwell and thanks to the 100+ who entered the competition and also a big thanks to Matty and the team at The Rock 93.7.

Our 1st birthday is coming up next week so feel free to join us at Lyme bar next Thursday 6pm onwards and meet the team "long island iced teas all round" we could be in for a very merry night.

Weekly news David Bain finally got the result he's waited 15 years for a big fat "not guilty", theres been a lot of mixed reviews and controversy so i think its best if i keep opinions to myself; if anyone knows how we can get hold of David we would appreciate that as we would love to give him a custom piece to symbolise his struggle and hardship, $150 voucher for anyone who can supply us his details and secure a booking.

A lot of people thinking about tattoo dont know where to go, who to talk to or who to trust. Were here to help "anytime" so if your thinking about getting a tattoo and its your first time please dont hesitate to email or phone us on
